I needed a more modern camera than the R3 maintaining full system compatibility. The R5 has all the features I need and as it is a dated model it is available on the market at reasonable prices. It is definitely more reliable than the R4 which had more issues with the electronics. It is compact and a joy to use. My only criticism is that the spot-metering mode should also extend into shutter priority and program modes. Using average metering in these modes can lead to under-exposure unless you set the manual override to +1 stop. This is fiddly, easily overlooked and should be unecessary. On the R3 the metering mode is independent of shutter automation. Compatible lenses are also comparatively very expensive.
It is in beautiful condition and it works please send new light seals as promised

Leica R (reflex) film cameras are outstanding value for money now. The bodies are beautifully made and cover all the automated or manual options (except auto focus). O.K., the lenses are still quite expensive but, what do you expect with the worlds finest optics! Re-discover the pleasures of 'analogue' photography with the superb Leica brand!
Throughly reccommend this bit of kit - if you get a good one it's a pleasure to use. I woudl reccommend over the R4 as the R4 was prone to electrical faults but the R5 has a very good reputation.
