A fabulous album from start to finish. I loved Peter Gabriel but the transition to Phil Collins is seamless and perhaps makes the music a bit more popular with a wider audience. If you like Genesis you'll love this.

Nearly 33 years on and I'm still noticng different things in this album. LOoking back from this distance it fits with the 4-piece and classic lineup records much better than it seemed at the time. I must admit that this was the first Genesis record that I was able to buy at time of release and was slightly disappointed, but you can't have Suppers Ready on every album. On this cd we have ballads, narratives, fantasy and warped mythology. We also get superb musicianship. No surprise there for bass, drum and keys but Rutherford is a revelation on the lead guitar. No poor man's Hackett but able to deliver a different style confidently and producing his own unique sounds - most notably on Follow You, Follow Me. There has to be a case for saying this is Phil Collins' finest vocal performance on record. I'm not totally convinced at the need to remaster everything (sometimes several times) but the clarity on this 1994 version is excellent. If you want a good place to start a tour of Genesis then this is a good one.Read full review
