The first disc is Rory’s performances at the peak of his form and this is what this package is really about the 1979 performance is quite spectacular. The bulk of disc two is his 1994 appearance four years after his last studio album and the year before his death. By this time his constant musical companion, Gerry McAvoy has moved on after 20 years and Rory is playing with a new bass player. It struck me about halfway through the 1994 show, that there was a distinct lack of chemistry between Rory and the bass player, in sharp contrast to the earlier performances with McAvoy on bass. After I realised this I noticed that he barely looked at the bassist, as if he could hardly bring himself to acknowledge that McAvoy wasn’t there anymore. Rory still puts in a good performance but the magic isn’t there apart from occasional glimpses.Read full review

Some of the guitar playing on this dvd is beyond amazing. Most people say Jimi Hendrix is the best guitarist ever, for me it’s Rory Gallagher. R.I.P.
