We have a VW polo and it's not really a good fit for any type of roof rack so we looked into roof bags. As a budget option we chose this one. Its decent quality, fitted a large suitcase, medium duffel bag and a medium sized holdall in comfortably. Sits snugly in the middle of the roof and the straps held it securely for our journey from Lincolnshire to mid Wales with no issues. It didn't move. The only snag was I had to stop 5 minutes into the journey as if you don't give the straps a twist when you put the clip in the wind makes them vibrate loudly. Easily solved. I can't see it being waterproof but all you need to do is put your bags inside a bin liner and it is waterproof! Don't secure the straps overly tight as they will break and you don't actually need to, 70mph on the motorway it didn't move. Highly recommend this as a budget way to solve restricted space for a family in a small car.Read full review

I bought this for a recent camping trip luckily I tried it a few days before to check how weatherproof it was.... not very. You can see lots of little pin size holes in it. That being said it was still very useful for putting plenty of other stuff in. For the money it does a job which is all I needed.

Sturdy weatherproof construction, contents dry even after driving 1 hour in the rain. Fairly easy to strap to roof bars. I had the wide straps tied to the car lengthways roof bars and the thin straps to the acrossways roof bars that I purchased extra. I actually purchased 2 pairs of these roof bars to give more support to the contents of the bag and prevent them from contacting the roof and damaging the paint. I found it best to lay the bag, opened, on the roof bars then put the 2 suitcases we were using, inside the bag, some jackets and stuff went on top of the suitcases, then the bag zipped up and straps done up fairly tight, but not so much as to strain anything. As I am a belt and braces type of person, I also used a ratchet strap as extra security just in case. Initialy I had the ratchet strap acrossways around the bag and roof bars, but the lower part of the strap was stretched across free air and it hummed loudly as we drove along. Re-strapped with it lengthways and all perfect. Not much extra wind noise from the bag, it was positioned in the middle of an estate car roof. A great advantage of the roof bag over a roof box is that it folds up small and is much easier to store till next time.Read full review

Good value alternative to a hard luggage box & a bit more flexible, i.e. can fold it up. Ive added a 3mm hardboard base inside, which spreads the load of luggage items better. Good strapping and can put a padlock on the zips. All in all, great value for the money!
