I have number of legacy laptops and a desktop now running Linux Ubuntu, all of which lack a working DVD writer. I don't think it's particularly fast, but as it is portable (taking power from a separate USB port) I tend to use it with whichever of my machines is available to allow me to create a disk unattended after launch.

Great product, good value, but as I have windows 10 I had to download software in order to get it to work. As a result it can be a little slow, but that's a system fault, not a product fault. This is good as it is easy to store and as easy to use as it would be if it were built into the laptop
