Clearly the last reviewer does not understand that what you put in is what you get out. Sitting the amazing 751's on floor standing speakers is definitely never as good as dedicated stands. Using gale speakers cable is a no no for sure and a phone as a source we'll need I say more. The 751's will fill any size room with the most beautiful detailed And refined sound you could imagine from a small stand mount Speaker with a tight defined bass. A must buy if you can get them.

The Golden Era of Speakers and Hifi Missions 751 (non Freedom) These has the front firing port and Silver Tweeter Which in my opinion gave a much clearer treble than the smooth sounding Freedoms which had the round silk tweeter and rear port. Cabinet build quality like all the 75 series was bomb proof and these speakers will comfortably keep up with any £400 stand mounts of today. Just place them on good stands and hear them sing.Superb!! All I’ve done is hand wax the cabinets and the Rosewood looks Stunning.

I'd read a lot of good things about Missions 75 range of speakers from the early 90s and decided I had to give the range a whirl. Before I commence I'll mention that I run a few budget systems of supposedly similar quality to the one running the 751's So I have a vintage Technics EQ (SH-GE70), Technics amp (SU-A900 MK2) fronted by my HTC One phone with Cambridge Audio AUD500 interconnects and Gale bi-wire and banana plugs powering these Missions. I have them mounted on top of a pair of Mission M33i floor standers which are filled with silver sand (as good as any dedicated stands I've ever had) and the sound is on another level to any other speakers I've ever owned. The early 751's (not the Freedom model) have a front firing bass port and a metal tweeter. I can only describe the sound as beautiful, they are very forward and quite bright speakers and this may well not be to every ones taste but the level of detail, sound stage depth and instrument placement at times leaves me with my mouth hanging open. There's not a lot of bass to be had from these but what there is is nice and controlled. These won't be any good for house parties or very large rooms but for the discerning listener if you can find a good pair you should snap them up. The build quality is excellent, I own quite a few pairs of modern Mission speakers and while the build quality of them is good these are so much better. The solidity and weight of them is incredible as is the finish. When I look at them I have to remind myself they're 20 years old they've aged so well. They are a bargain for the £40 to £120 they seem to go for on ebay when they rarely appear. I've read that a modern equivalent would set you back at least £600 and I'd be inclined to agree as these blow other speakers I own like Wharfedale Diamond 9.1's or Mission MX1's totally out of the water. I think you'd have to look at something like Monitor Audio's Silver RX2 for a modern equivalent that even approaches the standard set by these speakers. The bottom line is that these are excellent and I've been on a look out for a second pair for future spares or use in another set up ever since I got them. It's a shame Mission have gone down hill a bit since as these truly represent their high water mark.Read full review
