If you're a Wildhearts fan, you'll probably know that Ginger (vocals, guitar) is a bit of a character, to say the least. He's an individual in an age where everybody copies everybody else, and where people only do things because that's the 'cool' thing to do. Ginger is different. He knows how he likes his music, and if he feels like recording a great album and then layering the entire thing with white noise, then he'll do it. And he did. The songs on this album are classic Wildhearts, and i feel, some of their best. What makes the big difference is that there is white noise all over the record. It's intentional and i think it's very Ginger. There were a lot of complaints from fans, and to this day, Ginger still gets asked if he's going to re-do the album without all the fizzing. Controversial it may be, but brilliant? There's no doubt. Endless, Nameless kicks off with Junkenstein, with it's huge, noisy riffs and continues into Nurse Maximum, which is classic Wildhearts - it's melodic, it's noisy, it's discordant, and basically what you expect from this band - changing the sound/style of the music many times within the same song. This is part of the reason that The Wildhearts' music never gets boring. The album continues in the same vein and includes the classic anthem called....err "anthem", Pi*sjoy, Why You Lie (with it's viciousness and punk edge) all the way through to the brilliantly title closer "Thunderfu*k", during which the veil of white noise finally lifts, in the dying moments of the album, to reveal a clearer, more familiar sound. I could write all day, trying to describe each song, but i'll put it like this - if you like classic Wildhearts songs, you'll love the songs on here. It's just a case of whether or not you can put up with all that noise that's been layed over the top. I can, and i love it. I think this is an overlooked gem and one of the band's finest.Read full review
