Edward Everett Hale (1822-1909) was an American author and Unitarian clergyman. He published The Man Without a Country as a short story in the Atlantic Monthly in 1863. Although the events of the vel were set in the early 1800s, the story was an allegory and implicitly referred to the upheaval of the American Civil War.
