The Atomic - Mr Basie is a delightful reissue and probably one of the best productions from the great pianist terms of arrangement , syncopation and selection of tracks. I loved the lp from the first opening strains of "Kid from Red Bank" (Basie, Neal Hefti) to the final melodic Lil Darling. Highly recommend the album to those wishing to drip their toes into the wonderful pool of the jazz genre. As with so much of the fantastic albums produced in the jazz heyday of the 50,s and 60's they seem just too short because you are immersed in such a great musical experience you don't want it to end. The structure of album is so well conceived that one track seems to blend seamlessly into another - even though there is clearly a difference in tempo and mood between the tracks, definitely no jarring when listen to this piece. Buy the album, sit back with your drink of choice and enjoy. The vinyl sounds fantastic and the original album graphic artwork is great and more than stands the test of time. Read full review
