This is a fantastic modeling pedal from Digitech that replicates many of Queen guitarist Brian May's signature sounds from various recordings throughout the years. I bought it primarily because I play in a band that covers several Queen songs and was intrigued by the tones this thing offered. Also, built into it's circuitry is the Brian May treble boost, and you typically have to pay the same price just to get that pedal alone. A lot of the sounds will also work for other classic rock guitar tones like Randy Rhoads (Ozzy Osbourne) and Tom Shulz (Boston). If I'm going to critique anything, it would be that whenever you're utilizing the optional FS3X pedal with it (and this is probably more of a critique of that pedal) that you cannot easily switch patches. It only goes up through them, and then back down, all in sequential order with no digital readout or LEDs to tell you what's going on. You either have to count clicks, or just listen to the tones and know what's what. Again, this is more about the FS3X. What you can do is just reach down between songs and turn the knob to the sound you want, but that certainly isn't as efficient as it could have been. There also should have been an ON/OFF switch on the FS3X as well. Instead, you have to step on the Brian May pedal to switch it on or off. Again, this is about the FS3X. But that may be important to you if you're going to use the Brian May pedal in a live situation. Also, the Brian May pedal does not work with batteries, so you have to have the wall wart. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get it to work with my Pedal Power box either. So I have to plug in the wall wart on my pedal board. But back to the main functions of the pedal. In a nutshell, they sound great! The reproductions of each song are stunning. The patch for "We Will Rock You" sold me on the whole pedal just by itself. But there are many other great tones as well, all from classic Queen songs. There frankly is no other pedal that will get these sounds as authentically. The real drag about that, is that this pedal has been discontinued and is getting more scarce by the minute. So I would highly recommend getting one asap.Read full review
If you are looking for the Brian May/Queen guitar sound. Without buying a wall of Vox amps and a Brian May signature Red Special this will get you in the ballpark. IT is absolutely aces in the "I want to sound like that guy" line. Well made the DigiTech folks got it right this time. Now even if you aren't a fan of the sound (sorry I am a child of the 70's) there might be a spot on your pedal board for this one as it really adds a different texture to the regular pedal lineup. The DigiTech Brian May Red Special Modeling pedal is worth a look.
Awesome on electric bass. Perfect tracking with NO glitches. Handled an open D on a de-tuned Fender Precision. Very cool and funky sounds. Can actually sound kind of silly or weird. Some sounds can have a dark science fiction/horror film soundtrack sound. Very similar to vintage analog synths. You do have the option of mixing as much of your dry signal in as you want.

Great pedal for guitarists looking to spice up there pedal board. A valuable tool for 70's and 80's cover bands out there! personally I love collecting odd but usable pedals for home recording. For any of my fellow 'Sabbath" fanatics this pedal will def get you the sounds required for "Who Are You" ! Be sure to download and print the manual from the Digitech Website as this pedal does not include it. Finally, being that other synth pedals start at around $200, this is a great value!
