I built a new PC for myself back in 2007. I bought a combo package from Tiger direct containing the CPU, Motherboard and Heatsink/fan. The other parts I bought over time and after a month or two I finally had all of the parts necessary to build my machine. Unfortunately, the processor that came in the bundle was an AMD Athlon 64 2.6GHz (single core) processor I believe. The socket is AM2 so the best processor I can possibly get that is compatible with this board was the AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor which brought me up from single to dual-core. After receiving the product and buying some thermal grease for $15 at Staples (over priced) I installed the CPU. It took about 10-15 minutes as I had to clean the heat sink of any remaining thermal grease among other things. I installed the CPU, slathered on the thermal grease and plopped the Heatsink and fan back on top. I turned on the PC and suddenly I was running with a dual-core processor. I haven't had a single problem with my computer since installing the Athlon X2. It was in perfect condition without a single bent pin. I dislike the fact that it is slower than my original processor but running a dual-core processor is better than running a single core any day. This product, for it's time, was an excellent processor. It still is if you're running with an older motherboard and need a quick dual-core upgrade but with the emergence of affordable quad-core processors and higher you would be unlikely to want one of these unless you had a specific need for it like I did. With that being said I expect to run this machine with this processor for a couple of more years at least. Great product!Read full review
This processor completed changed my PC's performance. I went from choppy audios/videos and lagging software to super-fast, multitasking abilities for under $10! Super happy super satisfied!
