With headphones, it sounds pretty good. The speaker is crappy however - But that's alright. The recording function is good enough for simple voice recording and things that don't require anything THAT good, but it's pretty bad. Don't expect to be able to make a mixtape on this. BUT it is a quality built machine, and will last years after you get it. It's already almost 30 years old already, but it's lifespan (if taken care of) is longer than this.

It does not play music or voice at proper speed. Just rumbles. When an external power supply is plugged into it it doesn't work at all. I will be hesitant to purchase any other electronics from this source. The batteries are not at fault. They are fully charged. Perhaps it might record voice on an unused tape. Haven't tried that. That is not what I purchased it for. It is a big disappointment.

Recorder did not record properly. Tape movement was erratic. Recording speed was "fast forward" speed--totally garbled. Item is unusable.

Sadly, this is a dirt cheap product from China that just doesn't work. Yes, the spools turn but the pitch variation (wow and flutter) make it all but unusable for music. Might work for speech (books on tape) but that's about it. I'm guessing being "new old stock" it's about 15 years old and the belts have stretched/perished.

Works great. My recorder was clean and had no marks or scuffs. Can be used with batteries or the provided AC connection. If you still have cassettes like I do, it's a no brainer.
