Gothik, wonderful and strangely restrained. The leads are good. Especially Jane...plain but with an INNER luminosity which makes her beautiful Not an easy feat to pull off. The best scene is when, after being terribly teased by Rochester, Jane lets him have it with both barrels...then the thunder storm. This like similar scenes in Austen's novels, leads to a conversion/an opening up of eyes and heart to see the reality of the other...and the truth contained in the words. One of the great scenes in literature and well realised in this version. Strongly recommended.

What I like about this version is the leads, the female lead in particular. It's seldom nowadays that you get a really good young female actor. She is so good and so convincing in this role. I enjoyed it immensely and it kept me engaged all the way through. Every version is a different take on the original but this one, even though it took licence, was good and added a contemporary edge to it.
Two very good actors retelling a classic story. Very well acted, and entertaining. Beautiful scenery.

DVD quality was good, and this is one of my favourite stories. This is the best version I have seen, but if you want a shorter version the Samantha Morton / Ciaran Hinds film is also excellent.

One of the best yet screen adaptations I've seen. Staying true to the original story. Both actors excell ! Despair, loss, friendship, humour, hope, romance, happiness and more ! So make that cup of rea, digestive in hand, feet up on that sofa and enjoy !
