Well acted - the story lines loosely based on the Flora Thompson books are absorbing, period detail is good. It veers towards sentimentality, but the more syrupy aspects are balanced with some acidity and humour. It's a good series to watch an episode at a time. Engaging rather than gripping. The lead performances are fine, Julia Sawalha's especially.

During the lockdown what could be better than to lose yourself for a little while settled in front of the TV to watch one of the best costume drama,s ever to have been produced by the BBC. The sets are glorious and the clothes meticulously researched and a delight for the eyes. The story lines have a element of real life and one can imagine such things happening next door or down the street and make you smile cry and reflect. Just a joy to watch. Great cast some believable characters and well worth the licence fee. Well done BBC.thankyou

I am absolutely enthralled with this DVD. I love the story and the characters. Can’t wait to see the next episode as the previous one finishes. It’s keeping me entertained during lockdown.

I enjoyed watching lark rise to candleford when it was first on tv and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching it again on dvd. the only snag is that i am hard of hearing and cannot get the subtitles to work so i miss much of the conversation. still enjoyed it though!
