This book was first published in 1930 and remains a classic of British humour. It calls itself a "memorable history of England" but you mustn't take that too literally! I think it's true to say that you need to know a little about our history to "get" the humour in the book, but if you do you will find it very enjoyable. It's also quite surreal in its humour and very funny for all that.

The best history book you're ever likely to read. Extraordinarily clever, witty and funny. I bought it as a present for a cousin. She loved it and insisted on reading whole chapters aloud to her family as soon as she had unwrapped it, though from time to time she had to stop reading because she was laughing so much. No historian should be without a copy.

Just wanted to have a copy as I remember it as a child. Humour still relevant.
