These maps are almost essential for anyone planning a canal holiday - they allow you to plan your route in advance with regard to how much cruising / lock negotiating / chilling / pubbing you fancy doing on your holiday. It may avoid the mad dash back to the boatyard at the end of your holiday. These maps give you suggested cruising times but don't forget to allow for busy times - canals are no different to motorways except that the hold-ups have the potential to last days and there are few diversions available (hopefully nobody breaks any locks and you have the best holiday). Heron maps also give you some really interesting history and background information on the canal and the features you will come across. Enjoy your holiday
