If you solder you know full well that the sponge will not last for ever! I have never found a really good one, I have never experienced a really bad one. I wish this one was a little bigger, I wish there was away of keeping it in the tray but there isn't! It is not good quality, it is adequate for the purpose but then in all honesty I suspect that there is nothing a lot better out there. It is good value for money and I would recommend that anyone who wields a soldering iron keeps a spare pack in their draw. Finally a tip, always use cold boiled water to wet your soldering sponge, it will last longer and help to prevent the build up of bacteria in the sponge that can form oxidisation on your iron tip preventing a good joint.

These sponge pads just work. That carbon build up will create a heat shield around your iron reducing thermal contact. When eventually you heat the solder it will just fall off!!! You will make a messy solder joint this way. AND then you decide to scrape off the carbon! Now you have etched off the nickel coating. Heat plus copper is now super oxidising your tip!!! It's a cascade of wrong things!!! Or just buy a simple sponge, wet it and wipe it for a perfectly clean tip every time.

Having used up my previous supply of solder cleaning sponges I needed a uick supply of replacements. These are ideal for my purpose at an excellent price.

Simple little sponge pads that does exactly what they're intended to do. Hard to go wrong with these I would have given 5 stars if they fitted the Antex ST4 stand.....
