A great story with engaging characters and interesting observation of the social history of that time with the advance of industry and also deals with social injustices regarding the working man and opportunities for women. Very entertaining series.

Series Four, as with the previous three series, is excellently acted, engaging, warm, scenic, and with a sensitive sense of time and place. However, by Series Three, storylines were becoming weaker, and by Series Four, the narrative was running out of steam. Having said that, I rather liked the positive outcomes for the characters, and it remained watchable and enjoyable. The connections with Flora Thompson's books became more tenuous - period and setting stayed pretty close, but the characters and their relationships were mostly very much a fresh invention, and in the latter stages the distance between Lark Rise and Candleford seemed to be forgotten. Overall, an enjoyable sequence of series, sentimental but confronting real issues, with some memorable acting.

Period drama at its best, a lovely ending to the series (1 to 4) all worth watching. Light hearted fun and entertainment of times gone bye.
